Recruiting Report: Charles Bennington (2018)
Six-foot-3 forward Charles Bennington of Fargo South is a standout basketball and football player. PHD caught up with the Bruins big today.
“During this off-season, our varsity team traveled to team camps out in Bismarck and also down to Creighton’s team camp where we played against a lot of great competition,” Bennington said.
“As far as individually, I was in our gym almost every day this summer getting shots up and I was also in the weight room a lot to get ready for both football and basketball. I think I had a fairly strong junior year defensively, however, I think my offensive ability needed some improvement.”
Bennington battled for six boards a game as well as three scores an night as well. He wants to be a more skilled player as a senior.
“I’ve really focused on my scoring from outside for the upcoming season because I know I can defend and being able to shoot from outside will help space out the court for our guards to drive and kick.”
The Bruins senior class of Kaleb Johnson, Siadu Conteh, Sam O’Keeffe, and Bennington have high expectations this winter after turning things around at the end of last year.
“We have a lot of guys returning with a lot of varsity experience, we only lost three senior last year,” Charles said.
“We have a lot of guards with great scoring ability, however, we don’t have much depth on the four and five spot. We expect to be a top-three team in the east.”
Bennington and his teammates want greatly to get their team to the state tournament.
“My individual goals this season are to lead our team in rebounds and free throw percentage. As far as a team, we want to make the state tournament, South hasn’t gone to state in four years and we feel like we are good enough to get us back there.”
Charles is also a standout football player. Schools want Charles to play in college but he’s made up his mind about what he wants to do.
“I’ve had quite a few local colleges like UMary, Jamestown, Northern State, and Minot State contact me about playing for them for football, however, I decided that playing sports in college isn’t for me. I am going to UND next fall to study business,” Charles said.
