Currently checking in as Utah’s 5th-ranked 2018, Canyon View senior Brantzen Blackner heads into his senior with one offer, and a chip on his shoulder.
The 6-foot-4 guard has a Southern Utah offer to his name, and though he’s interested in the program, he wants to see what else he can muster this winter.
“I’ve told them that I’m interested, but I made the decision to not sign. I’m just going to go out there my senior year, and see what else is out there,” said Blackner.
“For me as a player, I like to play with a chip on my shoulder, so I’m just going to attack my senior year as if I don’t have an offer, and see what else I have, see what else is out there”
Whatever program gets the good-sized guard, will get a sharpshooter with a penchant for exploiting mismatches.
“I like to shoot a lot, so that’s a big part of my game and a big focus of mine. Our style of play is we like to push the pace, so I get a lot of open shots that way,” said Blackner.
“Being 6’4, I like to slash and get into the paint. And any time I get a mismatch it’s fun, and I can just take my guy down to the block.”
This past spring and summer, Brantzen was running with Salt Lake Metro 17U in between working out and playing with his high school team in summer leagues.
Now, as he gears up for his senior season, the goal is to continue and lead his team — he averaged 19.1 points per game last season — and see where his basketball career can go.
“I hold myself to a high standard for our team, and I’ve been a team captain for a while now,” said Brantzen.
“I’m just going to out there my senior year and just have fun, enjoy it, and see what comes up.”
