Recruiting Report: Adam Schumacher (2018)
Waseca has a lot of scoring production that needs to be replaced and six-foot-1 wing Adam Schumacher of Waseca is one of the players ready to handle a bigger role.
“Training has been countless hours in the gym and weight room,” Adam said. “Most people know Nick Dufault for his ¾ court shot but and him have been workout out together since I was in eighth grade.
“So a lot of my workout plans have been through the help of him. I have been playing AAU basketball since the sixth grade. For my senior year I have been working on my ball handling and scoring.
“My junior year I was just trying to find a spot in the rotation so as a junior I played a lot of post and at 5-foot-11 it was difficult at times.”
The Jays had a lot of talent last winter pushing to a 25-4 record with future college basketball players on the roster. Now Adam will need to produce more as a scorer than he had to in past years.
“My improvement for this year is to be more of a threat on the offensive end,” Adam said. “Last year with Jake Guse, Kaleb Nelson, and Malik Willingham. I didn’t need to score but this year I’m looking to score more and my team is relying on me to score. So that’s definitely one of my focuses.”
The Jays bring back Willingham and Schumacher but will have to fill other spots. Adam and the Jays still think they will be strong.
“Most people are thinking this will be a rebuilding year because of the loss of a very good senior class that we had last year, bur through the summer we have had some freshman step up and fill the roles.
“We are going to be a young and small team that is going to run up and down a lot. We have some good returners that will help those freshmen out a lot.”
As an individual player Adam is thinking only about team. He just wants to win.
“I don’t really have any individual goals besides scoring more because at the end of the day the only score that matters is the final one,” Adam said.
“Our team goal is to get to the sectional finals and hopefully a state tournament berth. I don’t really care about my state because all I want is for us to play as good as we can. And to win as many games as we can.”
Adam has a MIAC school that stands out the most to him.
“I have visited Gustavus and I think that it is a great fit for me. And it is number one on my list.”
