Q&A – Getting to Know: Zachary Fincher
Stephen-Argyle 6’6” senior, Zachary Fincher, sat down with Northstar Hoops Report to discuss his upcoming season, his college decision, and other topics.
Northstar Hoops Report (NHR): What was it about Concordia-Moorhead that pushed you to decide to go there? Do you know what you plan on studying?
Zachary Fincher (ZF): “Everything about Concordia seemed great, but the biggest thing was the people there. Everyone seemed genuine and made me feel like I belonged there. I’m very excited to get on campus and continue my basketball career. I’m not sure on my major yet.”
NHR: What aspects of your game make you the successful player that you are? What aspects of your game do you think that you still need to work on going into your senior season and then into college ball?
ZF: “I think my size and physical play makes me a good defensive player, I’ve never been asked to put up a lot of points, so rebounding and defense I feel are the ways I contribute the most. Going into this season and college I will be focusing more on my perimeter play, I’d like to be more of a scoring threat moving forward.”
NHR: Who is the toughest player you’ve faced in MN? How about in AAU ball? What makes them the toughest?
ZF: “The toughest player I’ve faced in AAU is probably Jarvis Thomas, it was my first year in AAU and I had never seen a guy as athletic as he is, it was a big wake up call.”
NHR: What is your favorite high school gym to play in?
ZF: “The gym in Hallock is definitely my favorite because it’s small and the stands are always packed.”
NHR: What are your expectations for this season? What needs to happen for your team to make a deep run in the playoffs?
ZF: “I think we have a very promising year in front of us, I would love to be down competing in the State Tournament and I think this is our year to do it. I think for our team to be successful this year everyone has to realize our potential and make strides to achieve it. We have a very athletic and talented group and if everyone’s on board we can be successful.”
NHR: Is there an NBA player, college player, other player that you try to model your game after? What aspects of their game do you like?
ZF: “I don’t really have a player I model myself after, but if I had to pick one it would be Shaq. His physical play is fun to watch.”
NHR: Your HS career obviously isn’t finished yet, but to this point, what has been your favorite memory of playing HS basketball?
ZF: “My favorite memory is the section championship game against Red Lake last year. Their fans were wild and it was awesome. It was a great game.”
We appreciate Zachary taking the time to sit down with us. He should be a nightly matchup nightmare for many teams in the Six Star Conference and Section 8A this season.
