Prospect Watch: Easton Null (2019)
Class of 2019 guard Easton Null of Jefferson High has established himself as quite the 3-point marksmen during the first two years of his prep career.
The 6’0″ Null has made a total of 136 3-pointers during his first two seasons of high school basketball while shooting 38 percent from long distance. Having already scored 818 points heading into his junior season, Null is poised to reach the 1,000 point mark early during his junior season.
“I just get in the gym every day and get shots up,” Null said. “It’s just a lot of continuous shooting. I put in a lot of work in on my shot.”
As a freshman, Null became an immediate fixture in the starting lineup as he averaged 12.4 points while making 49 3-pointers. As a sophomore, Null really picked up the scoring pace as he averaged 21.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and three assists a game. He shot 38 percent from long distance while making 87 treys. He also made 75 percent of his free throws. As opposing teams started to pay closer attention to his shooting prowess, Null has had to develop other parts of his offensive game.
“I’ve had to work on everything because I see a lot of different defenses such as box and ones,” Null said. “I’ve learned to come off screens and how to create shots off the dribble.”
Null has spent his past two summers playing at a high level with the Gateway Basketball Club 16U team that competed in the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series. For a player from a small school such as Null, being able to compete against top players from around the country proved to be beneficial.
“It helped me a lot because it’s a huge jump from playing at a small school to the Gauntlet,” Null said. “There were bigger kids who were stronger and faster and it really made me better for the upcoming season.”
