Prospect Spotlight: Will Crawford (2019)
Bishop Montgomery forward Will Crawford is one of those “unsung hero” type of players who flies far under-the-radar for one of the best teams in the state.
He doesn’t do anything flashy or to draw attention to himself, but is a crucial component to why the Knights have been so successful over the last couple of years.
At 6-feet-6 and 220 pounds, Crawford did all the little things last season as Bishop Montgomery won a CIF State Open Division state championship.
Bishop Montgomery forward Will Crawford does a lot of the little things that helps the Knights to be one of the best teams in the state.“My coach says I’m a pretty good defensive and offensive rebounder,” Crawford said. “I’m a good shooter inside the 3-point line on the pick-and-pop.
“For me, personally, I think I need to get to the basket more,” he added. “I need to become more of a cutter and expand my game in that way.”
Crawford came up with plenty of timely offensive and defensive rebounds and clutch mid-range jump shots last season for the Knights last season, but was also in-part responsible for helping guard some of the best big men in the country in Marvin Bagley III, Bol Bol, Riley Battin, Onyeka Okongwu and Jordan Brown.
Bishop Montgomery is again in mix as one of the top teams in the state of California with a good chance to repeat as Open Division state champions.
Crawford said that the loss of Ethan Thompson, now at Oregon State, does hurt, but plenty of others are stepping up.
“A lot of people are stepping up this year like Gianni (Hunt), David (Singleton) and Fletcher (Tynen),” he said. “I think we’re a more versatile team this year with guys who can play different positions.
“We have a saying, ‘Just be us,’” Crawford added. “We need to play together and play as a team.”
Crawford currently holds a 3.5 grade point average and has heard from a couple of smaller college programs at this point in his recruitment.
