Prospect Spotlight: Mahlik Hall (2018)
2018 stand out guard, Mahlik Hall has been a special talent for the Kent-Meridian Royals.
Hall averaged 20.1 points through twelve games last season for a struggling Kent-Meridian team. He scored a season high 35 points against Mt. Rainier earlier last season, followed by a 28 point performance against Mt. Tahoma.
At point guard, Hall has to score a lot for his team, even playing some wing to get more looks off screens. He can score at a high level and is a streaky shooter. Hall put in the extra work this past summer, while preparing for his junior season.
“My focus was to improve on my ball handling, being able to control the ball and use different moves to get past my defender. As a combo guard, I can also play off the ball but I really put in the extra work doing drills off the dribble” said Hall.
“Another thing was consistency with my jumper. My shot wasn’t really consistent in the past, so I got up a lot of shots daily to change that.”
Hall feels that being underrated and overlooked helps him work even harder. He’s motivated by the lack of acknowledgment he’s receiving.
“What motivates me is being underrated and doubted. Also going up against someone who is “ranked”, that always gets me hyped because its an opportunity to show I can compete with the best.”
“The biggest thing that motivates me is not having an offer. That pushes me to get in the gym way more and work on the things I need to work on to be the best player I can be.”
Hall is receiving very little interest from colleges but hopes to turn some heads the rest of his junior season and his last summer AAU circuit.
“I have received interest from Portland State and I’ve also received a letter from Seattle University. I’m looking forward to talking with UC Davis as well.”
With many goals for his junior season, Hall plans on achieving all of them.
“My goals for my junior season is to show the work I’ve been putting in, develop the skills of being a leader, and maturing with adversity. I want to become a better player mentally and physically. I plan on getting my recruiting up and to make my case as one of the top guards in my class.”
Hall will continue to put up some big lines this season, as his recruiting should slowly increase.
