Prospect Spotlight: Josh Young (2019)
2019 forward Josh Young joined state contending Lakewood Ranch this summer.
Coming over from Tennessee-Collierville, Young was only able to go to open gym, weight training and practice sessions fresh off of his move. The 6’6″, 190-pounder didn’t play travel ball.
The Mustangs went 27-3 a year ago, losing in the Class 8A state semifinal 54-49 to eventual state champion Sickles.
Young had nothing but kind words about his new group.
“I think it’s worth noting that I’ve never played with, seen or heard of a team that plays more or harder than the guys at Lakewood Ranch (coach Schiller included),” Young told Prep Hoops Florida.
No offers have come yet for Young, but he says on top of earning a scholarship to play basketball, he’d love to go to a college with amazing school spirit and an exemplary pre-med program.
Young says he’s seen a massive improvement in his jumper while working alongside head coach Jeremy Schiller over the last few months.
“Just by being in practice I’ve learned to hustle, be aggressive and how to play basketball with my new teammates,” he said. “I’d like to improve my handles and aggressiveness, especially on the boards.”
Lakewood Ranch is deeper than ever and what Young provides is another big with inside scoring ability. 2020 transfer Christian Shaneyfelt also brings height and a shooting touch to this offense. The Mustangs are going to be dangerous once again and if Young can get the chemistry down with his new squad, then the sky is the limit for the 2019 forward.
