Player Of The Year Candidate: Maka Ellis
For the next few weeks we will take a look at the potential candidates for POY in the state of Nevada for the 2017-18 season. There are four Hot candidate in the city of Las Vegas. This week we will feature the Silky smooth 2 guard out of Sierra Vista High school Maka Ellis.
Bio: Mr. Ellis is coming off a season where he avg. 25 pts 8.7 rpg 3.3 apg and 56 stl with 14 blk. Last season he played Multiple position due to a lack of inconsistency from teammates. He showed that he could carry the load and be a leader. Last season this young man drop 56 in a game. The highest scoring output in the state last year. Mr. Ellis will need his teammates to bring a balance attack so that he can maximize his potential.
Mr. Ellis is one of the best players to come out of Sierra Vista. His work ethic is relentless he is a gym rat that is very committed to being in good physical shape. We have seen a transformation in this young man’s game over the last 4 years. This is why he can win.
Overcoming the challenges: The challenge will be if Mr.Ellis can get all of his teammates to buy into the system for success. At 6’5″ he can score from all 3 levels on the floor but the challenge of double teams and zone defense will create problems. Over the summer with Vegas Elite AAU team he showed that he can get inside the lane and pull-up. He’s a very intelligent player that picks and choose his spots on the floor. He is very good at creating space between him and his opponents.
If he does this on a consistent basis the Player of the Year award shouldn’t be a problem.
