Piedmont Triad 7 Conference Preview
A look at the Piedmont Triad 3-A Conference
- Ben L. Smith High School-This may be one of the most talented teams in the state this season, led by Charlotte commit Isaiah Bigelow. Bigelow is a 6-foot-6 wing. Another talented player on the roster is 6-foot-9 Brown University commit Jaylen Gainey. A skilled big man who is long and athletic. 2020 point guard Camren Hayes has offers from Western Carolina and IUPUI. 2020 wing Silas Mason is a top-4 player in PrepHoopNC’s rankings. He has been getting interest from some of the top schools.
Silas Mason
- Mount Tabor High School-Head Coach Andy Muse has 6-foot-3 senior guard Isaiah Wilkins back and his 20.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. The loss of Austin Gilyard (graduated) and Nick Evtimov (transfer) will hurt a little but Muse will have Mt. Tabor settled in when it matters.
- North Forsyth High School-Head Coach Sean Vestall brings back one of the top guards in the area in Anthony Hicks, a 6-foot-5 point/combo guard who is long and athletic. Hicks is a skilled guard that can score the basketball. North Forsyth is known for producing guards and Hicks is the one this season.
- Parkland High School-Returning is 6-foot-3 guard Daquan McGriff who averaged 14.2 points and 8 rebounds per game last season. Also returning is 6-foot-1 guard Cary Wilkins that produced nearly 12 points per game last season.
- Dudley High School-The Panthers return Josh Hopkins, a 6-foot-5 forward that produced 15 points and 4.2 rebounds this past season. Also returning off last years’ 15-10 team is 6-foot-4 Tim Boulware and his 11 points and 4 rebounds. Dudley High School always has some of the most athletic players in the state and will not surprise anyone with a deep run to the playoffs.
- Southwest Guilford High School-Lone starter 6’3 wing/forward junior Christian Martin (9.3 ppg) and senior key reserve, sharp shooter Cooper Cunningham (7.5 ppg), are the only Cowboys returning players with consistent varsity experience for a team that averaged 83.7ppg last season during the championship run. Seniors Ty Radford, Jamell Carter, Jalen Snipes and HP Andrews transfer JT Barrett are expected to have significant contributions for the Cowboys if a run is in order this year. Explosive juniors Jay’den Turner and Jo’el Pettiford provide length and athleticism and must also produce at a high rate for Southwest to follow up on last years memorable season.
- Western Guilford High School-After a 14-12 mark last season, Western Guilford returns only one player that made significant contributions. Bryson Wattington, a senior averaged 7.5 points per game last season on a team full of seniors.
