PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 7 Breakdown
With the PHI Freshman Showcase now complete, we are going through film and looking back at the games and players from the event. Now, we breakdown each team from the 3rd annual Showcase. Here are our notes on Team 7.
Mason Gonzales – 6’0 PG – Franklin Central (IN) – Mason is a solid lead guard prospect with some ball handling ability and creativity. Has a good perimeter jumper and is good off the catch. Could move off the ball down the road but solid right now as a leader, creator. Best skills are when he is looking to score with the ball in his hands.
Carter Lumpkin – 6’1 SG – Northeastern (IN) – Carter is a tall guard with some handles and good rebounding ability. Moves well for his size and while he might end up off the ball, but he’s really solid with it in his hands. Can be a mismatch guy if he is able to grow at all. Has good strength already and has plenty of offense in his game.
Michael Eley – 6’1 SG – Fort Wayne Snider (IN) – Eley is a tall, long guard who has a ton of upside. Really long and athletic enough to make a lot of plays. Can get into it on both ends of the floor. Jumper needs a little work as it is a low release but does so many things well. Best as a slasher who can use his athleticism to finish.
Max Jacobsen – 5’10 PG – Harrison (IN) – Max is a solid guard with some strength and toughness. Played well on the defensive end. He can rebound the ball well and can use his speed to get the ball up the floor. More of a facilitator right now and plays well under pressure. If offense comes, would be a really good two-way guard.
Kyle Ross – 6’5 PF – Andrean (IN) – Kyle is a big, strong forward with some versatility. He moves really well and has decent footwork in the post. Asserts himself well around the rim. Decently aggressive on rebounds. Good on the wing as well and can put the ball on the floor a bit. Best when posted up down low.
Kyle Crim – 5’11 SG – Morristown (IN) – Kyle is a solid guard who has some offense to him already. He’s a really solid perimeter shooter. Likely an off-ball guard but has the offense to use. Lacks strength right now on the frame. Smart player that has some defensive ability. Doesn’t make many mistakes right now.
Weston Hamby – 5’9 PG – Manchester (IN) – Weston is a small, but really tough guard. Really does well as a defensive player because of his effort level. Good shooter who could be a bit more aggressive looking for shots. Love the effort level and his ability to impact the game on both ends. If he grows, could get a lot better very quickly.
Will Shank – 6’0 SG – Fort Wayne Canterbury (IN) – Will is a taller guard with some length already on the frame. Lefty with a good mid-range pull-up. Plays well as an off-guard with his offense and shooting ability. Upside could be in his defense and rebounding ability with his length. Matches up well with opposing guards.
Vincent Brady – 6’0 SG – Lawrence North (IN) – Vincent is a tough guard who will play well as a 2-guard. Really long and should still grow a bit. Good passer and has the vision to make good plays. Drives the ball well and can get to the rim but could use a little more strength to finish through contact. Really good in the open floor.
Jermaine Woods – 6’4 SF – Fort Wayne Snider (IN) – Jermaine is a solid forward who should continue to grow. Good length and strength already. Pretty mobile and can paly away from the rim. More comfortable in the mid-range, faced up. Can be a really good rebounder because of his length and mobility. Needs a little more strength to finish at the rim.
