PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 5 Breakdown
With the PHI Freshman Showcase now complete, we are going through film and looking back at the games and players from the event. Now, we breakdown each team from the 3rd annual Showcase. Here are our notes on Team 5.
Dorian Harris – 6’1 PG – Andrean (IN) – Harris is a lead guard with good size and some strength. Decent handles that will need to get better but he’s already a really good defender on the ball. Likes to play tough and is always active on defensive side of the ball. Best on offense when he plays in transition. More of a setup lead guard right now.
Isaac Vencel – 6’0 SG – Bloomington North (IN) – Vencel is a tall guard with a ton of ball skill. Can handle it well, create into the lane, and rebounds at a high rate. Very active player that takes advantage and gets a lot of boards because of it. Good jump shot that can grow into a bigger part of his game. Better scorer at the rim right now.
Jayden Brewer – 6’2 SG – Avon (IN) – Brewer is a long, lanky wing that has sprouted up a few inches already. Has tons of length and he uses it a decent amount on defense already. Ball handling is okay and he can create into the lane. Needs more strength to take advantage of his skillset. Big upside as he continues to grow.
Brady Hunter – 6’1 SG – Castle (IN) – Hunter is a long, lanky guard with some creativeness. Finishes well at the rim with decent handles. Best as an off-guard where he can use his shooting ability. Technique can be cleaned up a bit on his jumper but he can knock them down from distance.
Adam O’Dell – 6’6 PF – South Bend St. Joseph (IN) – O’Dell is a big, strong forward with great size as a freshman. Has the ability to post up or faceup right now and can overwhelm defenders. Has good touch and a good motor where his rebounding takes a step up. Has good mobility and decent athleticism for his size and should still grow a bit.
Gus Etchison – 5’11 PG – Hamilton Heights (IN) – Etchison is a terrific ball handler with a lot of flair. Can breakdown defenders really well and get to the rim anytime. Will pass the ball well but also has a good perimeter jumper. Should grow quite a bit and with his handles, could be a dominant on-ball guard with a ton of skill.
Joseph Phinisee – 5’9 PG – McCutcheon (IN) – Phinisee is a solid guard who is best off the ball right now. Has good length and athelticism. He’s still a fairly raw prospect with a skillset that should develop well. Best in transition where his athleticism and length can take over.
Logan Pinkerton – 6’0 PG – Covington (IN) – Pinkerton is a solid guard with skill and some strength. Should develop as an all-around guard as his ball handling is good and has a bit of tougness with the ball in his hand. Will need to add a bit more offense but jumper looks solid and could be a bigger part of his game.
Cooper Jarvis – 6’3 SF – Western (IN) – Jarvis is a tall wing with some ball handling ability for his size. More of a forward that should still grow. Has good length and can grow into his game more with time to develop. Rebounds the ball well using that length. Has mobility and can defend a bit on the wing.
Alexander Money – 6’4 PF – Evansville Mater Dei (IN) – Alex is a tall forward with some versatility. He plays tough around the rim but has the ability to stretch it out to the arc. Good athleticism and tons of strength already. Can float a little bit but he has the skillset to play on the wing on offense. Best when he overpowers defenders in the post and is physical.
