Paul Arrowood Takes College Visit
Last week David Crockett senior forward Paul Arrowood visited Bryan College.
“My dad and I went to Dayton to visit Coach (Bryon) Lawhon and Coach (Don) Rekoske at Bryan,” shared Paul Arrowood.
Bryan College (NAIA) maintains a deep, deep roster of 20 players with seven more currently using a redshirt. The Lions of Bryan also outfit an enormous junior varsity team. Thankfully the JV team is not an afterthought as they endure a 14-game schedule.
The program and coaches made a nice impression on the 6-foot-5 forward Arrowood.
“Bryan is a very small college and campus with people that really care about each other,” said Paul Arrowood. “I loved the tight knit nature of it. Coach Lawhon has been especially helpful with reaching out and making me feel welcome.”
Because Bryan College is a smaller institution aspiring students must embrace the smaller college environment. Does Paul enjoy the possibilities at Bryan College?
“It’s a very good thing for me,” said Paul Arrowood. “I like coaches, teammates, and communities that really care about each other. I am also a homeschooler who plays for a public school, so the aspect of a Christian college that takes time and resources to really impact its students is important and positive to me.”
School Choices
Bryan College is definitely in consideration. A couple other schools are also recruiting Paul Arrowood as he enters his senior season.
Both Milligan College and Maryville College are pursuing Paul Arrowood.
“I have an offer from Milligan College currently, and [visited] Maryville College Saturday. Obviously, Maryville is D3 and can’t give athletic scholarships.”
Occasionally D3 programs will attempt to offset the cost of attendance with academic scholarships for athletes.
“True, they are working on an academic package,” said Paul Arrowood. “I have decently high grades so that helps.”
Standing 6-foot-5 Paul Arrowood acknowledges he is an college frontcourt outlier.
“Yeah, I agree that at my height I’ll really have to work to be good at what I do, but work is what I do best I feel.”
Byran College, Milligan College, and Maryville College envision Paul Arrowood in their frontcourt.
“I would be a forward, primarily a semi-athletic rebounder, post-up player, rim-runner, etc…basically what I do as a high school player,” said Paul Arrowood. “Basically what I do as a high school player. They are optimistic about my upside and room for improvement,, especially in shooting, feel for the game, and stuff. I’m pretty green as far as that goes… I’ve only played basketball for 3-4 years now.”
