Palmetto State: Region 1-A Predictions
Region 1-A this season looks like it will be between two teams McCormick HS and High Point Academy
Javarzia Belton left Calhoun Falls Charter this off season and transferred to WestRidge Academy in Kernersville, North Carolina.
Belton the reigning Region Player of the Year last season recently reclassified to the 2020 class. Belton has received scholarship offers from College of Charleston, UNLV and South Carolina State this past spring according to Golden Knights Head Coach Antonio Lowe.
Calhoun Falls beat the Chiefs twice last year for their only losses in the Region.
Will the new start up school High Point Academy (Spartanburg) catch the favorite McCormick for first-place?
Mataeo Durant-(2018) McCormick HS (Preseason Region Player of the Year)
Durant 6’1 forward was named to Class A All-State team last year. Durant led the Chiefs to the second-round of the Class A playoffs in basketball, The Chiefs lost to Hunter-Kinard-Tyler .
Durant has committed to play football at Duke University next season. Durant is one of the few upper classmen to return to this region.
Durant averaged 14.2 ppg.and 6.3 rebounds last season.
Armani Cade (2018) Calhoun Falls Charter
Cade 5’11 combo guard averaged 9.8 ppg for the Upper State Runner-Up Blue Flashes last year. Cade plays very aggressively on defense and can shoot the mid-range jumper.
Shondale Lowe 2018-Ware Shoals HS
Lowe 6’3 plays hard on both sides of the floor. Lowe averaged 15.7 ppg, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.3 steals last year for the Fighting Hornets.
Lowe was named to Class A All-State team the previous season.
Kadarius Garrett-2018- McCormick HS
Garrett 5’10 guard plays football and basketball for the Chiefs. Garrett averaged 10 ppg and 9 rebounds for the Chiefs.
Garrett will be depended on to push the ball up the court for the Chiefs. Garrett will be the second option on the offensive floor. Garrett was a Region 1-A All-Region team selection last season in basketball.
Jayden Byrd 2020 High Point Academy (Spartanburg)
Byrd led the Region in scoring as a 6’0 combo guard. Byrd helped lead the Grizzlies to the school’s first playoff appearance last season where they were upended by Timmonsville HS.
Byrd is ranked #30 in the 2020 Palmetto State Class.
Minori Riley 2020 High Point Academy (Spartanburg)
Riley 5’10 combo guard and Riley and his teammate Byrd will help lead the charge for Grizzlies in the Region.
Region Projection in Order : McCormick HS, High Point Academy, Calhoun Falls HS, Ware Shoals HS, Dixie HS, Whitmire HS, and the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind.
