No Surprise In Clutch Heroics of Westminster Academy’s Scott
Since he was a twig-thin freshman with minimal big game experience, Miami native Zach Scott displayed a rare level of poise.
This composure morphed into seasoned toughness by the time Scott spearheaded his Westminster Academy team to a 2017 state title.
In steering South Florida’s post season pressure cooker, Scott hit countless timely shots and came up with big buckets during critical moments.
This notable clutchness to Scott’s game made him an appealing target for Florida Gulf Coast University, the program to which he’s penned a letter of intent.
Westminster head coach Ehron Wallhoff rode Scott’s natural playmaking aptitude to a state championship last season.
Now that Scott is a senior and has some ownership of the program as the go-to source and savior, Wallhoff expects game-winners out of him.
What he probably didn’t expect was to end a double overtime thriller with Scott’s miraculous game-winner at the buzzer. Not on the first official game of the 2017-18 season, at least.
Scott received the inbounds pass, took one dribble and buried a wild half court heave to lift Westminster to a 72-69 2OT victory over North Miami.
Actually, upon further review, it was more of a three-quarter court heave.
The shot, which has since gone viral and circulated throughout social media, electrified the crowd at American Airlines Arena.
The Heat’s home court was the best possible location for the annual Hoophall Classic. Scott played to the size of the court and delivered as memorable a shot as you will find at this level.
The bigger the stage, the bigger Scott plays. Playing a top-shelf level of AAU basketball for Orlando-based 1Family this summer, Scott was flanked by high level talent.
Accustomed to shouldering the offensive weight at Westminster, Scott played second fiddle to the likes of UNC commit Nassir Little and shifty Buffalo-bound guard Renaldo “Rondo” Segu of Orlando Christian Prep.
