Mr. Basketball Contenders: Kevin Easley
The high school season got underway this week and we are excited about the games but just as excited about the players. One of the biggest things to watch every season is the Mr. Basketball award. Today, we wanted to start our preview series for the contenders for that award. We begin with a look at Lawrence North’s Kevin Easley.

When looking at the five contenders we have for the Mr. Basketball award this year, maybe the one with the most potential to move up the rankings with Lawrence North’s Kevin Easley. The 6’6 wing has been one of those guys on the state’s radar for years now but some like Aaron Henry have improved enough over the years to be in the conversation. Now, Easley sits with a loaded Lawrence North team and the potential to have a massive year. The Indianapolis area isn’t extremely strong and Easley and Lawrence North have a ton of the talent in the area.
Easley has had an up-and-down career starting out strong, committing to VCU, and then decommiting after a coaching change. Now, he’s at a point where he can be a really good player on a really good team. His scoring has improved over the last year and he’s more polished with his release and touch. Give him more tools around him to take some of the scoring pressure off his shoulders and Kevin could find his groove in his final season at Lawrence North.
Where the potential comes from with Easley is that their Sectional isn’t nearly as difficult as it was a year ago and this team might have more offense than last season too. A deep run is definitely in the cards and Kevin has the ability to put up some fun offensive numbers with a ton of opportunities to do so with games against teams like Culver Academy, Cathedral, Tindley, Warren Central, Carmel, Ben Davis, Pike, and Hamilton Southeastern. Their schedule is tough but that is maybe more opportunities than any other player on our list of contenders. The opportunity is there.
