Mr. Basketball Candidate: Ryan Davis
In this series we take a look at the potential candidates for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois for this upcoming season. Here we profile Conant 2018 center Ryan Davis.
Profile:
Davis is a 6’9” center out of Conant that made a huge leap in his game this spring and summer on the circuit with Wisconsin Playground Warriors. He is a thick bodied post that uses that to carve out space inside to score and is a solid rebounder. Davis is also very effective in the pick and pop game hitting jumpers that stretch out to beyond the three point arc. Saw his stock rise to one of the best post players in the senior class in Illinois over the summer.
Odds to Win:
20/1
Why He Can Win:
It will be Davis’ team this year at Conant. He took notes from Jimmy Sotos last year who was in the mix throughout his senior year for this award. He is now Batman and there is nobody on his team to steal his shine. Should post consistent numbers throughout the season as he will be among the most dominant post players in the Chicago suburbs.
Obstacles to Win:
How good will Conant be with the graduation of Sotos and Michael Downing? Those two brought a lot to the table last year and their production will be tough to replace. His teammates will need to step up to give Conant a good enough record to keep Davis in the mix. Also beyond recruiting followers Davis doesn’t have a huge name heading into the season.
