Lexington All-City Ballers
Lexington is the Horse Capital of the World, home of the Kentucky Wildcats, and home to some of the best high school basketball in the Bluegrass State. A hot bed for talent, Lexington is known to produce high level basketball teams, and players who go on to have outstanding careers at the next level. Here we take a look at “who’s next”, a list of Lexington’s top players in the city.
Kyle Rode, Lexington Christian (2019, Forward)
- Rode averaged 14.5 points and 5.4 rebounds last season as a sophomore. He also helped lead the Eagles to it’s first ever district championship and a regional tournament appearance. After playing AAU ball with Indiana Elite this summer, Rode is a sure bet to play D-1 basketball at the next level. He currently holds offers from Lipscomb, Wright State, Liberty, Northern Kentucky, Samford, Southeast Missouri, and New Orleans.
Zan Payne, Lexington Catholic (2018, Forward)
- After averaging an impressive 15 points and 8.8 rebounds last season, Payne will be looked upon to carry an even heavier load for the Knights as a senior. Catholics leading returning scorer and most experienced player, Payne kicked off this season with a 28 point, 9 rebounds performance against state championship favorite Covington Catholic. Payne is the son of University of Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne. It was recently reported that Zan may walk-on for the Wildcats.
Carter Hendrickson, Lexington Christian (2018, Forward)
- A University of North Florida commit, Hendrickson may have the most upside of any player in the city. At 6’6, he’s capable of playing inside and out and has the ability to run the floor like a wing. Carter was LCA’s leading scorer last season, averaging 15.3 points per game. He also pulled down 8 rebounds per game.
Terrence Clayton, Bryan Station (2018, Guard)
- Clayton averaged just under 14 points per game last season. He and Eric Boone will look to make Bryan Station a contender in the 11th Region. Clayton currently has interest from Kentucky State (D-2) and Asbury University (NAIA).
Austin Hall, Lexington Christian (2018, Forward)
- A University of the Cumberlands (NAIA) commit, Hall averaged 14.3 points and 6 rebounds per game while also helping lead LCA to it’s first ever district championship and an appearance in the regional tournament. Hall went for 20 in LCA’s first game of the season against Harrison County.
Eric Boone, Bryan Station (2018, Guard)
- Boone received his first college offer from Kentucky State (D-II) in August. He averaged 14 points and and 8.3 rebounds as a junior. Boone played solidly this summer with Adidas gauntlet powerhouse Louisville Magic.
Eric Powell, Lafayette (2018, Guard)
- Powell is a sharpshooting two guard who shot over 40% from the field last season. He averaged 11.2 points per game and has interest from a a number of small college programs.
Keaston Brown, Henry Clay (2019, Guard)
- Averaged just under 13 points per game last season. If he can improve his outside shooting Brown may find himself on top guard in the city before he graduates.
Justin Mitchell, Frederick Douglass (2018, Wing)
- Played for Henry Clay last season and averaged just under 15 points per game. Had a great summer playing with the LEX Future. Should find himself playing at the next level somewhere.
