KC (Mo.) BREAK OUT CANDIDATES (2019)
KC (Mo.) BREAK OUT CANDIDATES (2019)
Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at some 2019 players who are poised for a big season.
Glen McClintock, 6’1, SG/PG, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.) Team Rush
A strong outside shooter, McClintock is a competitor who can score in a variety of ways. He is a strong ball handler who can create shooting opportunities for himself off the dribble. Has a nice mid-range game and can shoot from distance. He and seniors Xavier Rhodes and Jake Thompson will form a strong backcourt this season at Rockhurst.
Nic Zeil, 6’7, PF, 2019, Park Hill (Mo.) KC Pacers
Zeil is a strong, physical post player who brings toughness and intensity to the paint. He mostly played behind a deep and talented group of upperclassmen at Park Hill a year ago, but he is likely to be one of the Kansas City area’s top up-and-coming bigs this season. Zeil has some face-up skills to go along wth a strong back to the basket game.
Dalen Ridgnal, 6’5, F, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.) KC Spurs
Ridgnal’s game is a throw back of sorts as he brings toughness, intensity and the ability to do a lot of little things well to the court. He gets a lot of garbage buckets in the paint as he outworks opponents, but he skilled enough to step out and knock down outside shots and handle the ball a little as well.
Deandre Sorrell 5’10, PG, 2019, Grandview (Mo.) MoKan Elite
Sorrell had a strong sophomore season on the varsity a year ago, averaging nearly 10 points per game, but with the departure of Big 10 commit Jordan Lathon (Northwestern) for IMG Academy in Florida, Sorrells is poised for a breakout season. He put together a strong offseason competing for MoKan Elite 16U squad. Known for his outside shooting, Sorrell knocked down 56 3-pointers a year ago to lead Grandview.
Michael Peake, 6’6, PF, 2019, KC Northeast (Mo.) MoKan
Playing at KC Northeast, Peake doesn’t get a lot of attention, but he is a strong, athletic forward who can impact the game at both ends of the floor. He is a tough match-up in the paint for most teams, has some face-up skills, and at the defensive end is a strong rebounder and shot blocker.
Kamto Eze, 6’7, PF/C, 2019, Grandview (Mo.) Team Rush
After seeing limited varsity action a year ago, Eze is poised for a breakout season after a strong summer competing for Team Rush 16U squad. He runs the floor exceptionally well for a big man, is a terrific shot blocker and can play above the rim at the offensive end. While still a little raw, he has a lot of upside due to his athleticism and length.
