Kansas’ top shooters (2018)
Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the state’s premier shooters in senior class.
Devin Davis, 6’2, SG, 2018, Wichita Heights
One of the state’s more underrated performers, Davis helped lead Heights to a berth at the 5A state championships in Topeka last year. He is a good all-around guard and is one of the better 3-point shooters in the Wichita area.
Cooper Kaifes, 6’4, SG, 2018, Mill Valley
One of the state’s top all-around players, Kaifes is coming off a big summer playing for MoKan Elite where he netted several Division I offers. He has good size and athleticism for a guard, handles the ball well and can score in a variety of ways. But his calling card remains his ability to knock down outside shots. He has a smooth, quick release from the 3-point line.
Cody McNerny, 6’2, G, 2018, Wichita Collegiate
He’s coming off a big summer competing for the Wichita Padres. McNerny is a strong guard who handles the ball well and can shoot lights out all over the court.
Luke Stuewe, 6’1, PG, 2018, Olathe East
Stuewe had a big off-season shooting the ball from the 3-point line this summer while playing for the KC Spurs. He is a tough PG who plays under control and is a knock down shooter from the outside.
Sam Ward, 6’2, G, 2018, Blue Valley Northwest
Like 2019 guard Christian Braun and others, Ward is poised for a breakout season for the Huskies after battling injury last year and then often sitting behind a talented crew of upperclassmen. He is a smooth guard with a nice handle and has a smooth looking perimeter shot. He can shoot with range and off the dribble and has the ability to get hot.
Tyler White, 6’5, SF, 2018, Shawnee Heights
White combines a smooth outside shooting stroke with good size and the ability to space the floor. He was a key part of a Class 5A state championship team last year and will play an even bigger role for Heights after the team suffered big losses to graduation.
