Jayson Brown Recruiting Update (2018)
Milligan College is the most recent college to reach out to Class of 2018 guard Jayson Brown (Beech), but not the first.
Four other colleges expressed significant interest in the Beech Buccaneer scoring leader.
“Lee, Lindenwood-Belleville,” said Jayson Brown. “I am talking to North Alabama and Fisk.”
Lindenwood-Belleville is a NAIA school on the Illinois side of St. Louis. There is also a Lindenwood University in Missouri, but the Lindenwood Lynx have reached out consistently to Brown.
“I have taken visits to Lindenwood and Lee so far,” said Jayson Brown.
What did he think about the Lindenwood-Belleville visit?
“I liked it,” said Jayson Brown. “The coach told me I could play right away. They have a JV and varsity and he told me I could play varsity right away…first year.”
Illinois is not far away, but distance is a deterrent to some recruits. Jayson doesn’t share that concern.
“It is reasonable (distance),” said Jayson Brown. “Their coach, I have been in contact with their coach the most probably. He texts me a lot. I think it is a good fit. I like it a lot. They have a lot of good guards there, so that is good.”
With NAIA schools rosters tend to be deep and the fight for playing is ferocious. Still, the situation and the program appeals to Brown’s interest.
Lee moved away from NAIA and now competes in NCAA Division II.
“Lee, I like it,” said Jayson Brown. “I like the atmosphere. They have a really good team this year. I like those two schools (Lee and Lindenwood-Belleville).
Jayson Brown does not anticipate deciding in the next couple months. In fact, he is ardently focused on the season. As a senior and a team leader, Brown wants to make a mark for Beech High School.
“Probably decide towards the end of the season, maybe after the season,” said Jayson Brown. “Yeah, probably won’t focus on it that much until the season is over.”
In the mean time Jayson Brown and Beech Head Coach Kip Brown (his father) are considering other college visits.
“I may want to go to Lindenwood again,” said Jayson Brown when asked. “I know the coach wants me to come over for a basketball game. Lee, I would probably…I want to take an official visit there. I would like to go see Fisk. I have talked to their coach. I want to go see one of their games. I will probably go to North Alabama too.”
