Georgetown Bulldog Shootout Notes
The season has started officially when you attend the Georgetown Bulldog Shootout every season the week before Thanksgiving. The former Dental and Steel Town Shootout is a fixture event in the Georgetown Community. I can only imagine in 4 days how many orders of nachos cheese and chili are ordered. It seemed like every other person I saw had these in there hands.
The best was in the championship game when both teams decided to wear home white jerseys. Eventually Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach went into change into some Georgetown HS Practice gear. The Saints showed good sportsmanship and changed jerseys.
Some notes from the event. Mike Green (2019) faced off with Shane McCravy (2019) in the championship game. This duo played together on the AAU circuit with Southern Stampede this summer. Green got the upper in the 63-50 victory for the Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach Saints. McCravy finished the night with 26 points.
Samuel Woods had a coming out party for Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach and scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory. Woods 6’8 left-handed forward has only played 2 years of varsity basketball after playing just 1 game as a sophomore at Waccamaw HS. Woods could benefit from a good prep school ball next season. Woods is receiving some NCAA D2 interest he said.
Carrele Cooper has a bright future for the Andrews Yellow Jackets. Cooper (2020) 6’1 guard was consistent throughout his first 3 games to start the season. Cooper averaged 10.3 ppg over the 3 game span for the Yellow Jackets.
Connor Heimberger and Ty’shaun Richardson will carry the Waccamaw HS Warriors offensive load this season. Heimberger (2018) is a left-handed guard that can knock down some 3 pointers at a time while Richardson (2019) just flies all over the floor and creates havoc.
CE Murray HS (Greeleyville) didn’t have a strong showing in the event going 0-2 to start the season. The War Eagles a Class 1-A School are still currently playing in the Lower State Championship Football Playoffs this Friday vs Baptist Hill. Twanye Butler (2019) could have a breakout season for the War Eagles. Butler played limited AAU this summer.
TJ Fladger (2018) needs help in the worst way with a supporting cast at Creek Bridge HS. Creek Bridge HS in Marion County is one of the smallest schools in the Palmetto State. Fladger plays out of position here for the Warriors and suffered a lot of losing on the football field the past 3 years as a quarterback. Fladger scored 17 points in the season opener to Andrews HS.
