Elite 14 Showcase Preview: Midwest City
The Bombers are preparing to make a run at the Class 6A Gold Ball. The year for Midwest City will start at the Elite 14 Showcase this weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas. Prep Hoops gives the player to watch, what to watch, the head coaches thoughts and matchups with game times.
Player to Watch
Derrick Walter Jr. 2018 6’5 Wing (Committed to Oklahoma Christian)
Walter Jr. will have the eyes of many upon him this season as the leader of the Bombers. With the loss of Keyshawn Embery, Walter Jr. returns as the leading scorer at Midwest City. Walter Jr. is a long 6’5 Wing with a sniper shot from three-point range. Over his high school career, Walter Jr. has progressed into a player that can get to the hoop and finish. Midwest City will need Walter Jr. to have a big year for them to be in contention for a state championship in Class 6A.
What to Watch
When a team loses its most two productive players in one offseason it has to completely revamp things. Midwest City lost Keyshawn Embery to Prep School and Jalen Redmond due to him enrolling early at the University of Oklahoma for football. The Bombers will look to respond with the senior leadership from the trio of Walter Jr., Josh Rivers, and Juwan Walker. The biggest thing to watch with Midwest City is to see how the young players respond being thrust into vital roles. JD Ray and Christian Cook are two young players to keep a close eye on.
Head Coaches Thoughts: Dewayne Bradley
What are things you are hoping to work on in scrimmages on Saturday?
“We are hoping to work on player roles, competing, problem-solving see what works from a defensive side which will be ongoing throughout the season probably and getting confidence. We will focus on rebounding and moving.”
