Defensive Stars: Flint
The Flint area has long been known for its hard-nosed basketball. This often goes hand-in-hand with tough defenders. Every team wants a defensive stopper who they can count on to lock in on the opponents star player. Ja’Kavien Lewis and Dominick Williams are two high level defensive stoppers in the Flint area.
Dominick Williams
Williams is a senior small forward at Flint Beecher. He’s especially dangerous because he’s a multifaceted defender. He likes to play defense similar fashion Patrick Beverly. Williams is great playing on the ball defense, but is equally dangerous off the ball and stepping into the passing lanes. He’s very quick and anticipates ball movement. Williams is effective in getting into his opponents head and creating chaos for the other team offensively. He’s able to guard multiple positions as well.
Ja’Kavien Lewis
Lewis is a senior point guard for Flint Carman-Ainsworth. He takes pride in his defense setting the tone for the game. Lewis simply doesn’t like to get scored on and feels that shutting down his opponent gives him confidence on the offensive end. There is no doubt that his stellar defense creates opportunities on the other end for himself and for teammates. Lewis can dictate a game defensively by guarding the opponents point guard and disrupting their offense before it even begins. He takes a lot of pride in being a defensive stopper for his team.
The common theme between Dominick Williams and Ja’Kavien Lewis is the mentality behind being a star on the defensive end. They both take pride in what they do and understand the influence they have on the game.
