Daivien Williamson and Jack Hemphill Make Pledges
Two top 25 prospects in the PrepHoopNC’s Top 150 made college commitments over the weekend.
2018 guard Daivien Williamson out of powerhouse Winston Salem Prep chose East Tennessee State University over Wofford, Charleston Southern, Drexel, James Madison and UNC-Wilmington. East Tennessee State Head Coach Steve Forbes will be getting a skilled guard for talent rich Winston-Salem Prep that can come in from day one and compete for playing time. He is athletic, knows how to score the basketball and can defend. Williamson is ready to set his goals on getting Winston-Salem Prep another state championship with his decision out of the way. New hire BJ McKie was one of the lead recruiters for Williamson and the new addition is starting to pay dividends. Williamson had this to say about his commitment, “I just felt real comfortable at ETSU and they fit my style of play.”
2018 big man Jack Hemphill of Ravenscroft School/Team CP3 made the commitment to Boston University this weekend. The skilled big man will be able to come in and provide rebounding and low post scoring for Boston University. He has the ability to step out and knock down some mid-range jump-shots consistently, something that he has put in the work and time to make a key part of his game. He will come in and battle for starting time as soon as he gets on campus. He had a solid summer playing with Team CP3 but his best basketball is ahead of him and will be able to showcase that more with Ravenscroft. Here is what Jack had to say about his commitment, “I realized Boston was just the best overall fit for me. Basketball wise I could’ve gone to some more established programs but I wanted to have the opportunity to earn a contributing role early in my career and I built a great relationship with Coach Jones as well as the assistants. Academically, it is a top notch school where I’m gonna get a very valuable degree. Socially, I bonded very well with the team on my visit and fell in love with the city of Boston.”
Hemphill had offers from Elon, College of Charleston, St. Joe’s, Vermont, App State, Santa Clare, UNC-Wilmington, William and Mary, American and Columbia.
Basketball runs in the family, as Jack’s brother James, enjoyed a strong career at Navy out of Broughton High School in Raleigh.
