Carvers Bay Bears Jamboree – News and Notes
Prep Hoops SC took in Day 2 action at Carvers Bay HS located in rural Georgetown County. The Bears Jamboree is the largest one in the Palmetto State with 42 teams – including 18 varsity boys teams.
Conway Head Coach Mike Hopkins informed Prep Hoops SC that it looks like the whole Conway Tigers team will be staying together this season with no players trying to graduate early. The Tigers are coming off a 10-2 football season. Juwan Moody (East Carolina football commit) and Jimmy Nichols (Providence signee) lead the way.
Darren Grainger a quarterback recently picked up scholarship offers from South Carolina State and Furman. Grainger threw for 2,125 passing yards this season while rushing for 641 yards. Grainger was (120-223) with 18 passing touchdowns.
Jaylen Moody 6’2 (225) inside linebacker recorded 105 total tackles this season. Moody had 3 interceptions this season. These 4 players give the Tigers a solid core group that have grown up together all through middle school.
Darius McGirt is a freak athlete at times for the Georgetown Bulldogs. McGirt (2018) should at times maybe be a half-time entertainment show. McGirt wants to get out in transition and looks to stalk the baseline.
The Marion Swamp Foxes had a few freshmen see the floor yesterday in some action. Tanaeri “TJ” Sanders and Mac Washington should see some minutes this season for Head Coach Andre Weathers.
Jace Stern was a pleasant surprise yesterday from Oceanside Collegiate. Stern (2019) 6’3 started off at James Island HS before coming over to the Landsharks. Stern a small forward was crafty with the ball and at one-time left a defender in his tracks. Stern drove the ball to the cup a few times and always seemed to be around the ball. The Landsharks will play a independent schedule this season and won’t be eligible for post season play in the SCHSL this season.
Prep Hoops SC will take in Day 3 action later today. Kingstree HS vs St James HS and North Charleston HS vs West Florence HS.
Prep Hoops SC will not watch the host team this evening. The Carvers Bay HS Bears will be very short-handed and playing several younger kids since the football team is still playing in the State Playoffs this coming Friday at home.
