Big on Big: The 757’s Best Bigs
“Bigs” maybe one of the most underrated positions in basketball. With the evolution of the big man continuing, we look at the best men the 757 has to offer.
1. Dajour Rucker | 6’6 | Cape Henry | 2019
There is no question who the best big man in the 757 is, Dajour Rucker. Holding more than several Division I offers, Rucker is a nightmare in the paint for any opponent. Not by any means selfish, Rucker has a significant passing ability for a big, but will still beat an opponent on the fast break, or midrange jumper. With his size and impressive post moves, and a legit jumper, Rucker should see his stock continue to rise.
2. Kenan Sarvan | 6’9 | Bishop Sullivan | 2019
A new comer to the 757, Akeen Sarvan has made his presence known early, without even playing a regular season game. Akeen, who going out on a limb, could be compared to a young Porzingis, came to the Crusaders by the way of Amsterdam runs the floor effectively to be a 6’9 post player, and provides the Crusaders with a new energy in the paint. With new guard, AJ Epps running the show for the Crusaders, the duo, (Epps and Sarvan) should become household names in the near future.
3. DJ Driscoll | 6’6 | Western Branch | 2018
DJ Driscoll may in fact be one of the most athletic athletes the 757 has to offer in any sport. At roughly 6’6, his good size makes it easy for him to defend the ball well, and rebound. Driscoll also can handle the ball if need be, an added addition that makes him one of the best bigs that the 757 has to offer in it’s 2018 class. A track and field athlete as well, Driscoll who has not played basketball for very long has showed improvement each season and has positioned himself into the top position of his class in this area.
4. Nyzaiah Chambers | 6’7 | Oscar Smith | 2018
Nyzaiah Chambers is a big that opponents would, and should hate to play. With his shot blocking ability, and ability to effectively pace the court, Chambers is known to send even some of the 757’s best shot into the stands. Chambers, who holds multiple Division I offers is the type of player every team needs, one who is not selfish, and finds ways to score when needed. With TJ Taylor now graduated from Oscar Smith, the senior, Chambers should look to be the go to guy for Oscar Smith.
5. Dallas Wilson | 6’6 | Churchland | 2018
Another senior, Churchland’s Dallas Wilson has probably had the most consistent improvement since his sophomore season. With his impressive effort on both sides of the ball, Wilson is a two way big that many opponents will have trouble with this season. Now that he has added strength and has become quicker, he is able to efficiently pace the floor, and shoot the midrange jumper, or blow pass defenders to the cup. Dallas should definitely be on Division I coaches radar this upcoming season.
6. Shawn Sanders | 6’4 | Green Run | 2018
Arguably the best senior big in the 2018 class within the 757, Shawn Sanders is a man amongst boys. Sanders, who can not only score on the inside, but can also score willingly on the perimeter. Shawn’s size provides him added strength that most players his age just do not possess. Sanders has the ability to also play on the wing, which is an added scoring edition to guard, Ashley James. Defensively, Sanders is mobile, able to defend the wing, and an excellent rebounder, with significant ability to handle the ball. Coaches should definitely have their eyes on Sanders as he looks to lead his Green Run squad far.
