5 Takeaways: Week 1 in KC

Ethan Kilgore is POY contender

One of the Kansas City area’s most talented players put up a school record 49 points in East Buchanan’s season-opening win over Trenton. An athletic 6’6 2020 wing player, Kilgore is coming off a standout offseason competing for KC Run GMC 15U and appears poised for a huge sophomore season after a standout fall playing WR for the East Buchanan football team.

Sevon Witt is a D2 prospect

The Raytown South forward showed off his abilities in front of Washburn and others last Monday as Raytown South boatraced St. Joe Benton. He is a strong, powerful forward who can play above the rim and has a developing skill set on the perimeter. Don’t be surprised to see his offer sheet increase throughout the season.

Jamarr Madge might be a D2 prospect

One of the area’s more overlooked guard prospects is Madge, who brings a calm demeanor to the court. He has good length and athleticism and can play either guard spot. He has improved his outside shot and is a knock down 3-point shooter.

Raytown South is a contender

The Cardinals were far too much for St. Joe Benton and they are likely. a force in Missouri Class 4 in the Kansas City area this season. They have good size in the paint, terrific guards and a ton of depth. The Cardinals brought a number of talented players off its bench and several players contributed.

TJ Babikir and Deng Bol are an underrated tandem

Neither player gets a lot of attention, but both were big reasons why Northtown won 20 plus games last season and appear poised for another big year in 2017-18. Bol is a well rounded wing player who is coming off a strong offseason competing for Team Rush while Babikir is a bucket-getting guard.
