5 Takeaways: Cardinal Ritter vs Brooks
Friday afternoon we kicked off our post Thanksgiving day hoops with Brooks out of Chicago against Cardinal Ritter from St. Louis. It was a dominant performance from Cardinal Ritter as they won 63-39 in the first consolation semifinal at the Adam Lopez Thanksgiving Tournament at Springfield Lanphier High School. Check out our 5 Takeaways: Cardinal Ritter vs Brooks.
Cardinal Ritter Backcourt
We came away very impressed with the backcourt duo from Cardinal Ritter. Malek Davis is a 5’10” junior point guard that controlled the tempo of the entire game. He is a lead guard that can both score and dish. Plays with great speed in the open floor and got to the rim for buckets. Liked how he distributed the ball getting others involved with crisp dishes. Also a solid on ball defender with lateral quickness. He had 16 points. His senior running mate Jared Phillips is a 5’11” thick bodied point guard that is built like a defensive back in football. He didn’t score a ton, but did a nice job getting others involve in transition.
Breon Mosby Inside for Ritter
Mosby was a load inside for the St. Louis squad! He is a 6’6” senior with a strong frame. Quick to the glass and was a monster rebounder inside of his area all game long. Quality post defender that played physical. Finishes efficiently with his touches around the hoop and gets to the foul line at a high rate where he shoots well for a post. Went for 11 points and 13 rebounds. Small college post.
Freshman Upside for Cardinal Ritter
Cardinal Ritter also showed they have some young prospects to track in freshman Mario Fleming and Tommie Williams. Fleming started and played major minutes. Good frame and length. Finishes well inside. The 6’3” shooting guard also rebounded at a nice clip. Clean looking shooting stroke. He had 10 points and 3 dimes. Another 6’3” freshman Tommie Williams came off the bench where he rebounded very well. Great projectability with wiry strength at a young age. Bouncy kid that gets on the glass. Projects as a small forward. Shot needs to improve as it comes across his face on release.
Pierre Poindexter Plays with Energy
Poindexter was the standout player for Brooks. The bouncy four man brought life to them in the first half by getting on the offensive glass and converting. Not an overly skilled player, but plays really hard.
Brooks Jersey #’s
How hard is it for a team to get the numbers, names, heights, and year of players in the program? Every other team had it! Then on top of that the players numbers change game to game. Not the easiest to know who you are evaluating!
