2020 Illinois PG Stock Risers
With the point guard position they are usually the first prospects that emerge in a class. Their talent shines through earlier in the process than wings and especially bigs. Some of the lead guards in the latest rankings took slight drops, but it was more because other positions emerged than their stock went down. Let’s look at some point guards in 2020 that elevated their rankings the most.
PG Tyler Beard (Whitney Young)
Previous Rank: #7
Current Rank: #5
Only a slight bump, but we thought this guard made major strides. Beard is a wiry strong and super athletic lead guard that has his stock pointing up heading into the high school season. He has the ability to get to the rim off the bounce with an explosive first step and his jump shot has greatly improved over the last few months to where it is now a consistent weapon. He is a no brainer mid-major recruit and a potential high-major kid. Already holds a DePaul offer.
PG Shaun Harris (Orr)
Previous Rank: NR
Current Rank: #42
Harris is a lead guard that not many knew about coming into the spring/summer. After a strong showing with the Illinois Wolves he emerged as a potential D1 point guard as he is garnering looks from several programs at that level. Seems to have a good understanding of running a team at the point guard spot and gets after it on the defensive end.
PG Michael Osborne (Proviso East)
Previous Rank: #60
Current Rank: #51
Osborne flashed as a freshman last season and has continued to make strides in his game. The 6’0” point guard has quality length and is more athletic than what we saw out of him last season. Handles it well and likes to slash off the bounce and get to the hoop. Plays very hard. Can be a bit turnover prone. With a strong supporting cast he should shine this year.
PG Joey Tianen (Niles Notre Dame)
Previous Rank: NR
Current Rank: #90
Tianen is a 6’2” 2020 point guard that put himself on our radar at the PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 camp. He is a slick handling point guard that flat out attacks! He got in the lane time after time. Finishes well at the rim around defenders. Over dribbles and is a bit wild at times, but there is definitely some talent here.
