10 Best: Lakewood at Sumter
Prep Hoops SC went to Sumter for a crosstown rivalry game with Lakewood HS this evening.
The Gators ended the 3rd quarter with a 30-29 lead. The Gators opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 to take a 35-29. The Gamecocks came back with a 8-2 run to take a 38-37 lead with 2:30 left in the game. The game went into overtime and Isaih Moore hit four out of five free throws to tie the game at 42-42. The Gamecocks prevailed in the battle 50-46 in overtime.
MVP: Tyrell Smalls (2019) Sumter (pictured on the front)
Smalls 5’10 point guard led the charge with 14 points for the Gamecocks. Smalls hit a game tying three pointer to help the Gamecocks prevail tonight in the crosstown rivalry.
Offensive Performance of the Night: Isaih Moore (2018) Sumter
Moore scored the final five points for the Gamecocks to tied the game at 42-42 late in the game. Moore a College of Charleston signee scored the ball from mid-range to three point point range for the Gamecocks tonight.
Defensive Performance of the Night: Juwan Perdue (2019) Lakewood
Perdue 6’6 left-handed forward controlled the paint for the Gators. Perdue had several rebounds and blocks tonight while altering several shots on the defensive end.
Play of the Game : Sumter runs at the end of the game and overtime
Sumter scored the game final five points to end game at 42-42. The Gamecocks outscored the Gators 8-4 in the overtime sessions.
Best Guy off the Bench: Zykeim Jackson (2018) Sumter
Jackson came off the bench for the Gamecocks and played his role. Jackson 5’11 quarterback on the gridiron spelled Smalls at times tonight.
Best Underclassmen: Calvin Felder (2019) Sumter
Felder 6’8 athletic bouncy forward excels in the open floor game. Felder finished the evening with 12 points on some put backs around the basket.
Best Player under the Radar: Omar Croskey (2019) Sumter
Croskey 6’4 wing didn’t play on the varsity last season. Croskey could play a big factor into the Gamecocks plans this coming season.
Best Project: Ahkeem Lawson (2018) Lakewood
Lawson keeps his improvement in the paint for the Gators. Lawson 6’7 left-handed post player has a nice jump-hook and can step-out for the 10-12 foot jumper. Lawson shows to have great hands. Lawson started his high school career at Sumter HS.
Best College Prospect: Grant Singleton (2018)
Singleton 5’11 guard has the ability to turn the corner and break to the basket. Singleton is not afriad to pull-up or shoot the 3 ball for the Gators. Singleton is the reigning Region Player of the Year last season for the Gators.
Takeaway:
The Gators added some pieces to a team that went undefeated in Region 6-4A last year. The Gators added Quentin Hodge from South Florence HS and Terrell Houston from Laurence Manning Academy in the offense.
These two programs will meet again next week at the Gators house. The Sumter HS Gamecocks have quite a tandem in Moore and Felder.
