10 Best: Faith Assembly (NC) at Comenius
Prep Hoops SC started the new season in the Upstate last night at the Comenius School in Fort Mill. Comenius opened the season playing Faith Assembly (Durham, NC). Comenius pulled away in the 3rd quarter and defeated Faith Assembly 73-57.
MVP: Josh Rubio (2020) and Brandon Burford (2018)
Rubio scored a game-high 18 points and Burford added 16 points for Knights in the victory. Burford scored 12 points to start the second half. Rubio became more of a force inside in the second half to help the Knights pull away for the victory.
Play of the Game: Comenius come back
Comenius outscored Faith Assembly 30-11, after trailing 15-3 to start the game to take a 33-26 lead at the half. The Knights showed heart after being down early in the game.
Best Defensive Performance: Comenius Defense
The defense was led by Nilous Hodge (2018) who created turnovers and blocked shots. Monte Horne (2019) created havoc for the ball handler up the floor all night long.
Best Guy off the Bench: Dillon Harrison (2019)
Harrison scored six points to close the first quarter. Harrison came into the game after the first timeout. Harrison 6’5 arrived this season at Comenius after playing across the state line at Union Academy.
Best Underclassmen: Chandler Speights (2020)
Speights a sophomore played about eight minutes in the game. Speights came in a gave Horne and Hodge a break in the game.
Best Guy under the Radar: Jason Sims (2018) Faith Assembly
Sims 6’5 combo forward for Faith Assembly. Sims will battle with big inside the paint. Sims also has a outside shot and will hit several threes. Sims arrived at Faith Assembly this season after attending Jordan HS.
Best Project : Loril Thomas (2021)
Thomas 6’6 freshman arrived at Comenius via France. Thomas is very raw and has the ability to be a big presence for the Knights down the road.
Takeaway:
Burford is the veteran on the Comenius Knights squad along with Nilous Hodge. This duo will look to carry this squad this season along with Josh Rubio and Dillon Harrison. The Knights play a very challenging schedule all season long and Prep Hoops SC plans on being there for some of the ride.
