10 Best: Christ School vs Porter Gaud (SC)
The match-up on the second day of the PrepHoops Battle of the Carolinas pitted Christ School against Porter Gaud out of Charleston, South Carolina. The Cyclones have won 3 straight SCISAA state championships.
MVP: Aaron Nesmith-The Vanderbilt signee scored 26 points for Porter Gaud. He is an athletic, sturdy built guard that is going to fit in well at Vanderbilt with the recruiting class that is coming in for 2018. He thrives at attacking off the dribble and getting to the basket.
Mr. Do-it-All:Josiah James-The 2019 point guard is so smooth with the ball, he can sneakily have 15 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds on any given night. He is a sharpshooting lefty that can knock down long-range shots consistently. He is 6-foot-6 and that helps with seeing over smaller guards and he can bully his way into the paint.
Best Big Man: Jake Lanford-The Yale signee is hard to guard once he gets the ball in the post. He is a big body that understands the game and knows where to be in the paint to get the ball and score. He does a good job of rebounding and blocking shots.
Best Underclassman: Jalen Lecque-The junior has leaping ability that has not yet been seen for the 2019 class. He is ultra athletic and can get off the floor in a hurry and hurt the rim. He is starting to understand his role as the point guard and is getting better at the position everyday.
Best Passer: Josiah James-The junior has a uncanny ability to always find the open man and thrives in doing so in transition. He sees plays a couple of plays ahead and always makes the right pass.
Best Defender: Justice Ajogbor-The sophomore has only been playing organized basketball for two seasons and is starting to get it. His timing is starting to come in and he is figuring out when to jump to block shots and is learning the techniques of getting position for rebounds.
Best Pro Prospect: Justice Ajogbor-The 6-foot-9 forward is only on the cusp of the type of player he is capable of being. He has the huge hands, long arms, large feet and footwork is getting close to being a NBA Draft pick. He is long and athletic and can score in the post.
Key to the Game: The defense of Porter Gaud was exceptional all weekend long for The Cyclones. Swarming ball pressure and try not to let anyone get into the lane.
Most Athletic Player: Jalen Lecque-The New York City bred guard is a high-flying highlight reel. He is athletic and bouncy. Every time he gets his hands on the ball he has a chance to make a play.
