Sectional Preview: 26
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 26.
Brown County (6-17) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Brown County struggled in all facets of their game last year and this year shouldn’t be much better for them. In fact, it will probably be worse. They lose six seniors all who played big minutes and only return a couple players who played varsity minutes last year. It will be a rough year for Brown County.
Edgewood (16-10) – Lost Sectional Final
Edgewood has been good for a pretty extended run and after a sectional final appearance last year, that continues to be the case. Edgewood does lose some of their best players from last year but do return a couple of nice pieces. Edgewood won’t be as good as they have been in the past but they do know how to win.
Northview (18-9) – Lost 1st Rd. Regional
Northview had a ton of height last year on the team, most of it graduated and they do return a few contributors. Senior Brigham Booe is one of the guys who will carry the team this year and after the players they lost last year, he will have to be a main contributor. Still a very good team, they may surprise some people.
Owen Valley (10-15) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Owen Valley was a small team last year and with seven seniors departing it will be a bit of a rough year. They struggled last year to score and this year guys who didn’t do much last year will need to step up. Owen Valley may go through a rough stretch here with all their talent being mainly seniors again this year.
South Vermillion (9-14) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Fielding a young team the last two years is going to help South Vermillion this year as they field a contending team for the first time in a long time. A group of guards will be able to shoot the ball at a very high rate. The only bad thing with be their lack of skilled height, and in 3A that may kill you.
West Vigo (16-7) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
West Vigo loaded up on offense last year and this year they lose their top five scorers. That will be tough to overcome because they don’t return much offense other than a sophomore who played in 20 games. West Vigo loses their height as well and so that won’t really do them any favors.
Contenders For 2017-18: Edgewood, Northview, South Vermillion
Prediction: Northview
Player to Watch: Brigham Booe (Northview)
