Region Preview: Region 15
Region 15 is full of intrigue. South Sevier makes the leap to 3A due to the new realignment. However, they are more than capable of competing at this level. In addition to South Sevier, Emery is a legitimate title and region contender. Moreover, a couple of sleepers in this region are San Juan and Grand. Both bring back a lot of talent and potential.
Region Preview: Region 15
1. South Sevier
South Sevier will be one of the top teams in all of 3A, not just Region 15. They bring back arguably more proven talent than any team in the entire state. In addition to having talent, the pieces play well together. Brodee Tebbs will be one of the biggest keys to this team’s success due to his ability to score and put his teammates in good spots. Tebbs has a high basketball IQ and does a great job of creating shots for himself and his teammates. Further, South Sevier will be privileged with having their top scorer returning in Caleb Barton. Barton is a knock down shooter who can score the basketball in an array of ways and does a great job of getting on the glass. Lastly, 2019 prospect Tyson Chisholm will be responsible for playing a bigger role. Despite being the second leading scorer on the team last year, Chisholm will carry a bigger work load and be responsible for being the center cog after this season.
2. Emery
Emery lost some Senior leadership but brings back a solid core of guys who can play the game at a high level. This group has proven that they can win and bring the right mentality to the game. Some of the key prospects to watch for this team include Easton Gordon, Kyson Stilson, and Keaton McDermott. Gordon led the team in steals this past season. Although he did not shoot the basketball at the level he would have liked to, Gordon is capable shooter who will shoot the ball better this upcoming season. Further, he did a good job on the glass despite being undersized. Stilson and McDermott’s ability to score the basketball at a higher level will be one of the biggest keys to this team’s success.
3. San Juan
Despite losing their leading scorer from last year, San Juan should be just fine this season. They bring back arguably their most productive player in Jaden Torgenson. Torgenson can score the basketball at a high level while creating for his teammates as well. His ability to dictate the tempo of the game and make his teammates better makes him a huge piece to this team. Further, he is a consistent threat from deep. In addition to Torgenson, Dylan Ivins will have a bigger scoring role but showed last year that he is capable of impacting the game in many ways much like Torgenson. He is a skilled passer who makes those around him play better.
