Region Preview: Region 14
Region 14 should be quite competitive with Providence Hall leading the way. In addition to Providence Hall, Delta will be quite solid this upcoming season. Further, my surprise pick for this group is Union. Despite having a tough year last season, they bring in a key transfer in Jon Parker and have some young returning talent.
Region Preview: Region 14
1. Providence Hall
Providence Hall returns quite a bit of firepower from a team that had a lot of success this past season. One of the key prospects to watch will be Marcus Sherwood. The 6’5 Center averaged a near double-double last year as a Sophomore. His ability to finish around the rim and create opportunities on the glass is key to this team’s success. He is one of the best bigs in all of 3A. In addition to Sherwood, Boston Douglas will be relied upon quite heavily. Douglas led the team in scoring and assists last season. Moreover, he stretches the floor and creates opportunities for Sherwood due to his shooting and passing abilities. This group looks poised to be one of the top teams in 3A.
2. Delta
Delta also returns a lot of talent and should be prepared to challenge Providence Hall for the region title. Despite being a 2020 prospect, Derek Smith Derek Smith 6'1" | PF Delta | 2020 State UT led the team in scoring this past season and looks poised to play an even bigger role this upcoming season. In addition to Smith, Trevor Burton will be another prospect to watch. Burton plays a crucial role for this team due to his aggressiveness on the glass and ability to contribute a scoring role. Moreover, he is a knockdown shooter who spreads the floor for Delta as well.
3. Union
Union received a huge transfer in Jon Parker. Parker led Uintah in points, assists, and steals. Although Union returns a couple of key players in Chase Birchell and Ty Gillman, Parker will be looked to immediately to make a huge impact for the group. Birchell and Gillman will have more opportunities this year due to the graduation of other prospects. Thus, their production will be key if Union is going to improve their record from last year. With that said, Parker should make the transition to this new region much easier. Union is going to surprise some people this year.
