Region Preview: 4A Desert Sky
Higley will be one of the most improved teams in the 4A Desert Sky Region as well as in the state. In addition to Higley, Tempe will be a legitimate playoff contender with one of the best backcourts in the state. Furthermore, Marcos De Niza and Seton Catholic will have a lot of pieces to replace. However, they are well coached and should compete in this group.
Region Preview: 4A Desert Sky
1. Higley
Higley received two of the biggest, figuratively and literally, transfers in the state. One of the big time transfers is Jason Harris Jason Harris 6'7" | PF Higley | 2020 State #242 Nation AZ . Harris is not just one of the top prospects in the state. Rather, he is one of the top prospects in the entire nation. In addition to Harris, they received Shon Robinson, a 6’8 transfer from Illinois. In addition to Robinson and Harris, this group has 6’6 Kyle White returning as well. Amongst these three, this will be one of the longest teams in the entire state. In addition to length and size, they possess plenty of talent. This team is by far the favorite at this point to win the Desert Sky region. Keep an eye on this group as they could be capable of making a title run.
2. Tempe
Tempe has a number of big-bodied big men who will aid them in competing with the likes of Higley. However, it is their guards that make them the most dangerous. Naseem Vigil is back for his senior year and will be more than ready to make a splash. This summer, he seemed almost unguardable at teams. He is quick and explosive. In addition to Vigil, Kameron Spivey-Johnson will continue to play a key role for this team. He looked more confident when shooting the basketball from deep. Moreover, he is capable of getting into the paint as well. Between Vigil and Spivey-Johnson, Tempe has one of the best backcourts in all of 4A.
3. Marcos De Niza
Marcos De Niza is going to have to adjust to life at the 4A level without a number of talented seniors who graduated from last years team. With that said, De Niza has a lot of athletes who can shoot. Further, they do a great job of spreading the court to create drive and kick opportunities. As far as key contributors are concerned, there is a potential for any number of candidates to step up and play a huge role for this group. However, based off of last year’s play, Lovonne Brunson and Jalen Porter would be two prospects who I would expect to consume much of that work load. De Niza is well coached and will fill in the spots.
