Recruiting Report: Truman Brown (2018)
A top prospect in Utah’s 2018 class, Layman 6-foot-3 guard Truman Brown brings a nice combination of size and skill to the court, and is still very much available.
Some Northwest programs have been paying attention to Brown — Utah’s 25th-ranked 2018 — and it seems some of that interest could turn into offers soon.
“I have some interest from SLCC, Westminster and some smaller schools out in Oregon and Washington. I’d say SLCC and Westminster are who I’ve heard from the most,” said Brown.
“My goals are to get some offers, something more official then just this interest.”
Brown did mention one school in particular he’d like to see show some interest.
“I would love to play at Weber State, it feels like it would be a good fit. I grew up going to camps there and have done some other things there, so that’d be super cool to play there.”
Whichever program ends up with the talented senior, will get a defensive stopper — Brown led 5A in steals last year — who can get it done on the offensive end, too.
“I think definitely shooting is one of my strengths, and I feel like I can do all things pretty well. And I like to just do whatever I can to help the team,” said Brown.
“My handles are alright, but I’m definitely working to improve those for the next level. And I’m working on an analyzing other players while I’m playing and assessing their weaknesses and things like that.”
Very soon, Brown will be leading the Lancers into what he hopes will be a productive senior season.
“I’d like to be the steals leader again in 5A, and hopefully average 20 points per game or something around there,” said Brown.
“My role will definitely be a little different, it’ll be my group this year. It should be super fun and I think we’ll play pretty well.”
