Recruiting Report: Simon Banks (2019)
In 3A, there are as many top teams in the state as there has ever been. One of those loaded teams is Brebeuf Jesuit and they will look to guys like guard Simon Banks to become a state-wide talent.
Banks, a 6’3 guard, is one of the more versatile players on the wing in this 2019 class in Indiana. He’s a capable scorer at all three levels but is as athletic as you want and has the strength to boot. Playing off of a guy like Myja White should allow Banks to show all of those things that make him a special player. Brebeuf Jesuit will have a load of talent and should compete for a 3A State Title with guys like Banks, White, Josh Haubry, Brennan Fitzgerald, Spencer Reist, and more.
Simon is a two-sport athlete with basketball and football. However, he has shown more than enough on the basketball side of things to draw in some interest. Last year, Banks averaged 11.5 points and 3.6 rebounds as well as 2.5 assists per game. He’s that all-around player you need on your roster. He’s such a smart and skilled guy that he’s not always going to be the guy making the highlight plays but he’s for sure on the scouting report to stop if the opposing team is hoping to win the game.
That type of play has drawn in quite a bit of college interest already. He’s been in contact with schools like Holy Cross, SIU-Edwardsville, Florida Southern, Morehead State, and Miami (OH). With his size and skill level, he grades out as a LM+ prospect with his ability to play either wing spot.
The key in Simon’s continued development will be to lock in on his three-point shot, He was able to shoot 40% from behind the arc last year. If he can continue and improve that along with some better rebounding numbers, that would strength his all-around game. A year from now, it wouldn’t shock if he did those things and had a number of offers in hand.
