Recruiting Report: Matthew Ragsdale (2019)
Lewis-Palmer 6-foot-1 junior guard Matthew Ragsdale is ready to step into a role this winter for a strong program.
“This year’s team has a lot of potential,” Matt told Prep Hoops. “The next two years we have the chance to compete for a state championship. Last year we lost six seniors but we have a couple of experienced seniors and some juniors that have varsity experience.”
With this new season also comes Ragsdale’s goals for the winter.
“My Goals for the 17-18 season are: 1: be the best player I can possibly be defensively and offensively while being a leader 2: Win our conference 3. Win a 4a state championship 4. To have fun and to enjoy every moment and make the best out of the opportunity.”
Matthew competed with The Force Basketball Elite 16u team that had a memorable summer.
“The top highlights from my 16u season was playing in the Big Foot Hoops tournament in Las Vegas,” Ragsdale stated. “My team went 6-1 and made it to the final 4.
“It was great because all of the hard work paid off in the last tournament. We came up short in the final 4 but the experience was great.
“This summer I tried to improve my defense and rebounding and attacking to the basket. Over the four months I became a better and stronger defender and was able to rebound better each tournament.”
Practice doesn’t start for several weeks and Matthew is working on several things to improve before he’s helping Lewis-Palmer night after night.
“My focus is definitely getting stronger and getting in the best shape I can be in. Weights and conditioning have been a huge focus ever since the summer ended. I am constantly in the gym getting shots up and working on my handle as well.”
Schools are starting to call Ragsdale about college basketball. Most are just showing early interest but the top 30 prospect in Colorado is likely to have many options.
“I’ve attracted some interest from two division one programs and then four or five division two programs,” Matt said. “I haven’t visited any college yet, but want to start visiting soon.”
Ragsdale watches the college game a bit closer but has NBA favorites.
“College basketball players have influenced my game the most . I’ve always dreamed of playing college and I love watching how competitive the collegiate level is. My favorite hoopers are Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, and Lonzo Ball.”
