Recruiting Report: Kyle Helbig (2019)
Kyle Helbig is a top 20 level basketball player and one of the state’s best football prospects in the junior class. Prep Hoops Colorado catches up with Kyle for an all sports update.
With so much going into football Kyle didn’t play 16u level hoops but he did spent some time with his Holy Family teammates competing on the court.
“Since I didn’t play club ball I really enjoyed playing high school summer ball. The way I improved the most was probably get stronger,” Kyle said. “To get ready for hoops I want to probably get stronger add just work on the things I can control.”
At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds Kyle gave his team a dozen points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and a steal a game as a sophomore. Helbig is one of several players returning for Holy Family on the court.
“I think we should be really good this year we have a lot coming back,” Kyle said. “We only lost four seniors and have kids that can fill those jobs really well.”
Kyle is in the middle of a football season where he has done some of everything. Receiving: 27 receptions for nine scores and 600 yards, Rushing: 26 carries for over 200 yards, Passing: 23 of 56 for 300 plus yards and three touchdowns, Defense: 9 solo tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception, Misc: 2 two point conversions.
Kyle has football offers and plans to see both schools.
“I have football offers from Colorado State and Iowa State,” Kyle said. “I’ve visited Colorado State and I’m going to visit Iowa State on the 27th for the TCU game.”
Kyle said his athletic influence is his brother Chris Helbig who was also a basketball and football player. Chris initially committed to play college basketball but is now a quarterback at Butler Community College.
