Recruiting Report: Evan Buckley (2019)
Evan Buckley, a class of 2019 point guard at Stone Bridge, expects to have a similar role with the team as last season. The main difference being that since he’s a junior this year, Buckley will have to step up more as a leader.
“I’m definitely gonna have to take on the true point guard role. Getting everyone in order. Making the right play,” Buckley explained. “Trying to get everyone involved, but I’m gonna have to be able to score the ball too. We have scorers, but we need everybody to score.”
Last season Buckley scored the ball mainly from the three and the mid range. This season he looks craftier off the bounce, and has been attacking more and making plays for others while finishing at the rim a lot more efficiently than in the past.
“I’ve definitely tightened up my handle a little bit,” Buckley said. “I’m getting in the lane more which creates more for my teammates.”
Buckley says the team goal is to make states, and that every time they break the huddle, they mention that.
“We’re trying to get there this year. We have to get to the state playoffs. At least,” Buckley stated. “We’re gonna have to come together as a whole, and be extremely unselfish and all about the team. That’s what we really gotta focus on.”
The biggest thing Buckley says he learned this summer was how to be patient, and not to take anything for granted. His 16U DC Blue Devils Team, who was supremely confident with a 12-0 going into the UA playoffs, got knocked off in the semifinals.
“Duquesne, Mason, and Bucknell are recruiting me pretty hard,” Buckley said. “I like the Ivy’s. I’m talking to Yale, and Penn. JMU, and Delaware have also been recruiting me. I’m going to Columbia in two weeks. Gonna see a couple Bucknell games, and try to get to Duquesne for a game.”
Buckley, who says he has a 4.0 GPA, is still waiting to take the SAT for the first time. What can he bring to a college program?
“I can bring leadership, and getting everyone involved. Being patient, and like a floor general at the college level.”
