Recruiting Report: Antavion Collum (2019)
Tennessee Prep 2019 small forward Antavion Collum is a physically impressive prospect. He stands at 6’8” with strength especially in his upper body. He plays a point-forward role for Tennessee Prep where he brings the ball up and initiates the offense. His superior strength on the perimeter gives him an advantage over weaker defenders trying to check him. Powerful handling it through traffic and getting in the lane for finishes at the cup. Consistently converts through defenders both going around them and through them. Tough rebounder that has the ability to take it off the rim and go the other way. Collum flashed shooting, but could improve on his jumper. Also over dribbles at times on the perimeter. Projects as a high-major prospect.
He spoke with us about his game.
“I feel like I play kind of like LeBron. I can switch it up and go to the block and I can shoot the jumper. I use that to my advantage.”
He ran with CP3 on the Nike circuit this past summer where he saw success as a team and elevated his game.
“We won 16U Peach Jam. We won a couple other tournaments in the EYBL. I got more comfortable with them running the point. At first I wasn’t handling the ball like I could, but when I went to CP3 the started putting the ball in my hands more and I grew from there.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have about 10 offers including some big schools like Maryland, Kansas State, Iowa State, and it has been going really good. I talk to Tulsa a lot. I talked to Maryland last week. I talked to Memphis and Kansas State lately.”
He has already visited Ole Miss and Memphis. What will be important in a school for him?
“I feel like a place where I feel most comfortable and I fit the program.”
