Daniel is a very versatile PG, with an excellent overall skill set. He can play as a pass 1st PG or the role as scoring PG which he played last season at McKinley Tech in his sophomore year. This season Daniel is expected to play the same role for the Trainers. McKinley will feature 3 go to players which are Daniel, 6’8″ 2020 Combo Forward Woody Newton & 6’1″ 2019 CG Tervondre Williams. Daniel participated in the DMV Elite 80 & the Prep Hoops 250 EXPO this September where he played very well. Daniel has entered Prep Hoops 2019 updated rankings @ #74 due to his outstanding play at showcases & summer league play .
We have seen Daniel extensively & he plays with a very high IQ & motor. He has an excellent handle & can beat defenders with his speed & quickness alone. Daniel can beat full court pressure with a change of pace dribble or hesitation & go from which he gets into top gear very fast. Daniel’s handle is very compact & he utilizes an in & out crossover, split double teams, side step, & step back to break down his defenders. He plays with very good court vision which helps Daniel see plays develop before they develop. He is an excellent facilitator & ball mover. Daniel can make alley oops, kick outs, drop offs, post entry passes, & any other passes delivering them to his teammates in great position to score.
From the perimeter Daniel has range beyond the college 3 point line & he is a threat for a pull up 3 anytime. His perimeter skills keeps the opposition off guard & creates spacing for McKinley Tech. Daniel makes quick & correct decisions knowing when to pass, attack the rim or shoot. His shot mechanics are near perfect with a high & quick release. Daniel can score very well from all 3 levels & from the triple threat where he has a very good jab step. His mid range is very effective & Daniel can use his hesitation cross over or between legs blow by for a quick pull-up or to attack the rim where Daniel is a very good finisher. He has a very good shot fake & go, to get inside the paint or finish. Daniel excels in transition & can score off his euro step & spin moves or deliver an outstanding pass.
Colleges are always looking for floor generals who can impact the game without scoring like Daniel. He is a vocal leader who gets 50/50 balls, steals, deflections & plays very tough on ball & team defense. Daniel has a nose for the ball & rebounds very well with great reactions to the ball. He is a very good athlete who can dunk & has great explosion out of cuts & from a standstill. Daniel works on basketball 6 days a week & adds, “I have a Personal Trainer (Evin) & we work on strength & conditioning, plyos, basketball drills, & running on the track. Since April I have gotten stronger, more athletic & improved my ball-handling, court vision & PG skills. Playing as a pass 1s PG this summer for The District Basketball Club was a big help. I need to continue to get stronger, more consistent, & improve my lateral quickness in addition to continually work on my overall basketball skills.”
In the classroom Daniel maintains a 3.0 GPA & is interested in majoring in Engineering when attends college. He is very close to his parents who he names as his role models. Daniel is a first rate college prospect with Howard & Holy Cross expressing interest. We expect him to receive offers this coming season. In his spare time Daniel studies Steph Curry & Isaiah Thomas of the NBA. McKinley Tech will be a top 3 team in the DCIAA with Woodrow Wilson leading the way & Theodore Roosevelt next in line followed by Dunbar. However, Daniel says, My goal is to win the DCIAA & The Washington, DC State Title.” We will be covering Daniel & McKinley Tech this season with live game reports and player articles.
