Under-Recruited in the 2018 Class
As members of the 2018 class ramp up to the start of their final high school basketball seasons, several are starting to really look ahead to playing at the next level. The 2018 class has some quality depth in it and there are several kids who are going to be really good college basketball players. Here are a few of the 2018 kids we can see being really good college players.
Justin Mitchell (Fredrick Douglass) – Justin is a kid who has the size and athletic ability to be a dynamic D2 or NAIA player. His jump shot needs to get more consistent from the perimeter and he has to play with a more consistent motor. Mitchell has seen lots of D1 interest over the past couple of years and could wind up at that level depending on how his senior season goes.
Clint Wickliffe (Fern Creek) – A wide bodied stretch big with good skills, Wickliffe is probably better than his one offer shows. Georgetown College has offered the 6’7 forward from Louisville but he could wind up at the D2 or even low D1 level if he can improve his rebounding for the position and show his full range of skills for the favorites to win the 6th region.
Eric Boone (Bryan Station) – Boone is a shifty point guard who excels on the defensive end. Boone holds an offer from Kentucky State but could be a good fit at a D2 or low D1 that plays with a lot of pace and space that would allow Boone to showcase his offensive abilities in addition to his lockdown defense.
Ahmad Price (Fern Creek) – Ahmad was offered by former Western Kentucky head coach Ray Harper before Harper was dismissed and headed to Jacksonville State. Ahmad has always flashed high skill level but an inconsistent jump shot. If Ahmad can showcase a better jumper and improved leadership, he can be an impactful D2 or better player a year from now.
Jason Alexander Jr. (Boyle County) – “Baby J” as he’s known, is a pure point guard and one of the better players in the 12th region. He’s not going to blow anyone away with a dunk in traffic and he’s not likely to cross an opposing guard and make them fall. What Alexander will do is run the offense and take care of the basketball. He should be a no brainer for any D3 schools and can be a D2 or NAIA player with a strong senior campaign.
Jacob Taylor (Bethlehem) – A 6’6″ wing that can score in a hurry, Taylor could be a fit for an NAIA or D2 school looking for someone who can get buckets from the small forward position. Taylor has had to play out of position in the post for most of his high school career but should get to play exclusively on the wing as a senior this year. Schools like Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville should make a point to check him out.
