Class of 2020 Review:
This year’s showcase of talent from the class of 2020 was awesome. Our showcase standouts for this class were Javonte Platt, Ashenefe Desta, Jonimark Langford, and Kayree Price.
Javonte Platt, 5’11 PG
Javonte Platt, a shifty 5’11 (PG) from Stewart’s Creek HS, Murfreesboro, TN. and Team Tae AAU is quick and loves to play up-tempo. One of two selected All-Stars in the class of 2020. He’s dangerous in the open court where you must stop him in a hurry, or he’s going to make you pay. He has next level handles and great upper body strength. He can step out and knocked down the 3 ball as well. He understands how to play pick and roll, which makes him even more dangerous. In addition, He’s a floor general. He needs to increase his accuracy from the 3, but the kid has a bright future. This kid is big time. Look for more to come on him.
Ashenefe Desta, 6’5 SF
One of two selected All-Stars in the class of 2020 was Ashenefe Desta, 6’5 (SF) Overton High School, Nashville, TN. and Tennessee EDGE AAU has a tremendous upside. All the coaches spoke highly of this kid, and when he figures out how talented he is, his stock is going to go threw the roof. He’s 6’5, with a 6’8 wingspan, very bouncy and can get off the ground quickly. If you don’t stop him, watch your head, because you will get dunked on! He’s a great shot blocker and rim protector, and has gotten more consistent on his jumper, as well. He must get stronger and increase his ball handling, but has D1 prospect written all over him. Keep your eyes on him, because you will see him playing on a major level in the next few years.
Jonimark Langford, 5’10
Jonimark Langford, the 5’10 spot up shooter from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, Tn. and Clarksville Gladiators AAU can flat out fill it up. He’s a spot shooter with great range. Don’t leave this kid open, because he’s going to hit a game winner on you. He has great range and release on his jump shot. He must get stronger and work on his ball handling. As he develops into a pure shooter, a lot of coaches will have this kids number.
Kyree Price, 5’8 PG
Lastly, Kyree Price, the 5’8 (PG) who’s smooth from Cane Ridge High School, Antioch, Tn. and Tennessee EDGE AAU is special. He’s a southpaw and uses it well. He has the handles, understands how to play off pick and roll and shoots at a high percentage from mid range. I love to see him in transition, says Coach Thompson, because he makes great decisions. As he continues to craft his game, he needs to increase his shooting percentage from 3, and learn how to be a floor general. His upside is great and you will see Kyree leading the charge for Cane Ridge High School over the next two seasons. I expect big things to come and plenty of coaches calling.
