Prospect Spotlight: Dimitri Stanley (2018)
Cheery Creek senior guard Dimitri Stanley talked with Prep Hoops today about his senior season and future (he is an outstanding football prospect as well).
Last winter his Cheery Creek team went 16-9 and there were several memorable moments.
“I would say that the highlights of our season was the first time playing Smoky Hill and the second time playing Grandview,” Stanley said. “Those were two big wins for us and really brought confidence to our play and it kind of carried on throughout the season.
“I feel my game has improved defensively and also controlling the floor and getting things set up on the offensive side.”
Stanley is in the middle of a football season where his team is 5-2 and he’s caught 56 balls for 738 yards and a dozen of those are for touchdowns. After football is over then basketball becomes the focus.
“Well hopefully we’re in the state championship for football but after that my focus will be strictly on basketball and first getting back into the groove and bettering my skills so that I can help my team get to the coliseum,” Stanley said.
Stanley averaged a dozen points three assists, a couple boards, and a couple steals as a junior. His team has little returning but still has expectations.
“We honestly don’t have too many players that come back in terms of players who had a good amount of playing time each game last year, and in terms of starters coming back it’s just me and Rashon Johnson,” Stanley said.
“I am confident with the players that we have this year and I think that it should be a good year with a pretty good record to show for it. Our goal is to make it to the coliseum, win the majority of our games.”
Stanley was a highly coveted football prospect before making is college choice to stay local and play in the Pac 12.
“I’m committed to CU for football and I was offered by a couple other schools from conferences other than the PAC 12 as well. I have taken visits to Colorado, Colorado State, Louisville, Nebraska, Iowa State, and Utah.”
Stanley has a big future in football but has some basketball idols that he follows as well.
“I would say that the players who have influenced my game most are Russell Westbrook and Kyrie because I’m more of an explosive guard with handles that can get to the hole and I think Russell and James harden are my favorite hoopers.”
