Preseason All-Conference: South Iowa Cedar – East
Preseason Player of the Year: Hunter Wilson, Keota (2018)
The five top scorers from a season ago in the conference were seniors, and Wilson is next in line to potentially bring home a scoring title. He’ll get it done on both sides of the ball for the Eagles, and will look to lead them to yet another East division crown.
First Team (2016-17 stats in italics)
Hunter Wilson, Keota (2018) 12.4 PPG, 1.5 SPG, 3.1 RPG
The Eagles had one of the more balanced scoring attacks in the state last season, with four guys averaging 12 point something points per game. Wilson is the only one of those four who returns from that 17-6 squad.
Cameron Krumm, Tri-County, Thornburg (2018) 11.1 PPG, 1.4 SPG, 8.2 RPG
The Trojans won just six games all of last season, but Krumm was a bright spot. The 6-foot-2 forward will get it done on both sides of the ball this season, and could see his numbers increase dramatically.
Dustin Haines, Sigourney (2019) 10.5 PPG, 2.0 SPG, 5.7 RPG
Sigourney has a youth movement going right now and Haines is spearheading it. He’ll score, rebound and defend, and has two seasons left to get his Savages to the top.
Josh Konicek, Iowa Valley, Marengo (2018) 10.3 PPG, 2.6 BPG, 6.6 RPG
A shot-blocking machine, Konicek led the Tigers in scoring, rebounding and blocks last season. And good news for the Tigers: not only is Konicek back, but the whole team is.
Garrett Straight, Belle Plaine (2019) 10.1 PPG, 1.8 SPG, 3.9 RPG
Straight is the Plainsmen’s leading returning scorer, and like most everyone else on this list, he’ll get it done on both ends of the floor; he was second in the conference last season with 42 total steals.
