Prep Spotlight: Corey Fields (2018)
Fields 5’11 guard is a multi-sport athlete at for the Bobcats. Fields averaged 16.1 ppg, 9.1 rebounds and 3.8 steals last season. Fields has scored 872 career points for the Bobcats on the hardwood.
Fields has passed for 7,167 yards and 81 touchdowns since starting his sophomore season on the gridiron.
How was your season last season at Baptist Hill HS?
It was actually good we finished first in our region, but we lost to Hemingway in the second round of the playoffs.
What is your expectations this season at Baptist Hill HS?
I believe that we should go farther in the playoffs. This year mainly everyone is coming back this year and I believe that we should win the region as well. I hope that we can go to Florence for the Lower State Championship and the State Championship in Columbia.
How is the football season going at Baptist Hill this season?
We should win the region with a win on Friday night. We are 6-1 in the Region 4-A.
What AAU team did you play for this summer?
I played for the Premier Jammers with Coach Pooh Frayer.
How has being a quarterback on the football field and leading a team on the Basketball court?
It taught me to get along with many different people. How to be a leader making sure I’m at the top of my game at all times and also staying calm and collected in different situations.
What skills can help you at the next level in both sports?
Just being able to do many different things on the fields such as throwing, running, and giving some details that may help other people with their game. On the court, i’d say being able to guard different positions on the court, play different positions and finishing around the rim well with contact.
What skills do you need to improve on for the next level in both sports?
For Football, I’d probably say just working on my footwork and just building my football IQ more. In basketball, i would say that i need to work on being consistent on my dribble, shot, and just continue to improve my movement off the ball.
What awards did you receive last year in both sports?
I received Class A state offensive player of the year. I was named Region player of the year and made All-Conference in both.
What Schools have offered you?
Newberry (SC) (NCAA D2) is the only school that has offered me. They’re going to allow to me to play football and basketball.
