Player Profile: Aaron Baune 2018 (McMinnville HS/Elite 24)
Standing just a little over 6’4 and routinely playing against bigger post players, Aaron Baune of Mcminnville High School has developed in to one of the most under rated but efficient players in class 6A. We caught up with the Grizzly to see where his recruiting stands, his thoughts on his recent AAU experience, and what he expects from his senior season.
Coming off a season where he lead a young team with averages of 18 points and 10 rebounds per game, Baune had this to say, “Our team was really young and our league was very good, so it was a great learning experience to try and improve game to game, that should hopefully help us this season.” Baune spent the spring & summer playing with Elite 24 from Portland and shared his thoughts on that experience, “Playing on the AAU circuit has really helped me improve my game. The talent and competition is always good and really helps you to improve.”
When asked to about his college recruiting Baune shared, “I’ve been hearing from schools of all different levels from D3 to D1 and have been invited to some camps and getting some letters. Nothing too serious as far as offers yet, but hopefully that will come as the season progresses.” “The main thing I’m looking for is a school that fits my style of play and somewhere that I get along with well with the coaches and other players. I’m planning on studying something involving sports training or physical therapy, so that will affect my decision as well.”
When asked to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses in his game, the first team all league performer replied, “I feel like I’m a consistent shooter and a solid rebounder. I’m also a good free throw shooter that likes to be on the line late in the game. I’m also pretty good at staying in the moment and not getting to up or down about a play.” “I’m working on improving my perimeter skills, mainly ball handling, as well as working to improve my quickness.”
Prep Hoops Oregon Evaluation:
Aaron Baune is a 6’4 forward in the class of 2018 that plays at Mcminnville HS. He is a bit of a tweener that has developed a nice inside/outside game over the years. He is an effective shooter with range to 20 feet and is also active on the glass, averaging over 10 rebounds per game as a junior. In order to reach his ceiling Baune must improve his foot speed as he will likely need to play on the perimeter at the next level. Baune is a guy that D3 and NAIA programs should take a long look at.
